Operation Off-road

*Brendan Byrne State Forest – October 5, 2024*

A day to remember

The Pine Barren Venom Jeep Club (PBVJC) and American Warrior Outdoors (AWO) joined forces on October 5, 2024, to bring a unique adventure to veterans and active service members in the heart of Brendan Byrne State Forest. Known as *Operation Off-Road*, the event paired military heroes with passionate jeepers from PBVJC for a memorable day of camaraderie and exploration.

PBVJC President Steve Szabo opened the day with words of gratitude for AWO members, leading participants in a flag salute to set a respectful and spirited tone for the adventure ahead. PBVJC members and Administrators were also on hand, enthusiastic to host this incredible event. The group then set off on a rugged journey along the forest’s unpaved roads, with most veterans and service members riding as passengers and one excited AWO member following in the pack to share the thrill of off-roading and connect with their drivers.

The scenic beauty of Brendan Byrne State Forest in New Jersey provided a stunning backdrop for this event. Many participants were thrilled to capture amazing photos and discover sights they never knew existed. PBVJC administrator Allan Hollowell, speaking over the 2-way radio during the ride, added a unique layer to the adventure. Allan shared insights about the history of the forest. Telling fascinating tales of the industries that once thrived in these woods. Glassmaking, bog iron production, cranberry farming, and even history about blueberries. They even rode through the historic town of “White’s Bog”, a cranberry farming village founded in 1857.

The journey concluded with a small yet heartfelt BBQ at the picturesque Pakim Pond Picnic Area. Hot dogs cooked by PBVJC Administrator Brian Etier, were a welcome and yummy lunch after such an amazing trip. There, veterans, service members, and Jeep enthusiasts relaxed, shared stories, and built friendships against the beautiful backdrop of the pond. A perfect end to a memorable day. Participants from both groups expressed gratitude for the chance to come together in such a supportive and fun environment.

Both PBVJC and AWO look forward to future collaborations that continue to unite veterans and Jeep enthusiasts, building bonds and fostering a sense of community through the spirit of adventure.
